Antonia and Harvey’s full day at the Staffordshire wedding venue with lodges

    Scroll

Foxtail Barns is a purpose-built, exclusive-use wedding venue in the Staffordshire countryside at Consall, near Stoke-on-Trent, and it has become one of the busiest bookings in the county for good reason. Seventy acres of woodland and walled gardens, an orangery for the ceremony, a party barn for the celebrations, and pod lodges tucked into the trees for guests staying over. Antonia and Harvey chose it for their full-day wedding, and these Foxtail Barns photos tell the story of the whole thing, morning to dance floor.

Every wedding at a venue like this one asks something different of a Foxtail Barns wedding photographer, the light in the orangery, the shade of the woodland, the glow of the party barn at night. That variety is exactly what makes it such a rewarding place to work, and if you are still weighing your options, it earns its spot among the best Staffordshire wedding venues comfortably.

Staffordshire is home ground for me, so this post doubles as a good look at how I work across Staffordshire, from the first quiet hour of bridal preps to the last song of the night.

    Stage 01 / Bridal Preps

    Bridal Preps at Foxtail Barns

As always with full-day coverage, I arrived a couple of hours before the ceremony to photograph the venue while it was still quiet. The grounds at Foxtail are immaculately kept, the woodland with its pod lodges on one side, the walled gardens on the other, and the orangery standing ready with every chair in place. A purpose-built wedding venue photographs like one, and those empty-room frames are ones couples always treasure afterwards.

The dressing room at Foxtail sits right beside the orangery, and it was a happy hive of activity when I found it, Antonia and her bridesmaids mid hair and makeup, the mother of the bride adding her finishing touches, perfume and champagne on the go, and even the confetti basket already waiting by the door. This room earns its own frames every time, big windows, soft light, and all the small rituals of a wedding morning happening at once.

Harvey, meanwhile, was keeping his nerves in check the traditional way, a quiet pint with his best man before the guests arrived. A calm groom, a settled venue, and everything on schedule, exactly how you want the last hour before a ceremony to feel.

    The Ceremony at Foxtail Barns

    Light pouring into the orangery,
and a groom who could not stop smiling.

The orangery was full and the guests seated when the bridesmaids led the march, one by one down the aisle with Harvey watching each arrival, knowing who was coming last. When Antonia appeared on her dad’s arm, the smile on our groom’s face said everything, these are the barn wedding photos that need no direction at all.

The service itself was short and sweet, and the orangery earns its keep as a ceremony room, light on every side, which for a wedding photographer means every reaction in the room is beautifully lit without a single flash. There was plenty of laughter in the vows too, always a good sign.

Rings exchanged, and the newlyweds sealed it with their first kiss as husband and wife, to a wall of cheers from every corner of the orangery.

While the register was signed, the guests took their own keepsake photos, and then Mr and Mrs walked back up the aisle and straight out into a storm of confetti. That basket by the dressing room door did not go to waste.

    Stage 03 / Drinks Reception

The Drinks Reception at Foxtails Barns

The weather held, so the reception spilled out into the walled garden. One of the quiet joys of an exclusive-use venue like this one is that the day is entirely yours, no other weddings, no uninvited guests, just Antonia and Harvey’s people enjoying the free-flowing champagne. I moved through the crowd largely unnoticed, which is exactly where I like to be, catching the hugs, the hats and the laughter as they happened.

While the champagne flowed outside, I slipped back into the party barn to photograph the details before the guests came in for the meal. The rustic oak beams give this room real character, and it was dressed beautifully, the table settings, the favours, and a wedding cake and cupcakes that looked far too good to cut.

    Portraits at Foxtail Barns

Into the walled gardens and the woodland,
    across all seventy acres.

Group shots done and kept deliberately short, I stole Antonia and Harvey away for their portrait session. I bring a relaxed, natural approach to this part, and I always let the couple set the pace, some want twenty minutes, some want five. These two were willing participants, so we wandered the walled gardens and the grounds and let the photographs come naturally.

From the gardens we ventured into the woodland, part of the venue’s expansive seventy acres, where the light through the trees does most of the work. A few unhurried minutes here gave us some of my favourite frames of the whole day.

    Speeches at Foxtail Barns

The party barn, the wedding breakfast,
    and toasts worth every reaction.

Guests were called into the party barn for the wedding breakfast, and the catering at Foxtail is genuinely superb, the kind of meal that has people talking long after the plates are cleared. Antonia and Harvey were welcomed in, and we went almost straight into the speeches.

The room was full of characters, as the best weddings always are, and I kept working it while the top table got ready to speak.

The father of the bride went first, and got Antonia right in the heart within about two sentences. Speeches are a soft spot of mine, you never quite know what is coming, and the reactions are where the real photographs live. Harvey followed with his thank-yous, and the best man closed it out to a room in stitches. Everyone laughed and cried in the right places.

Stage 06 / The Evening Reception

The Evening Reception at Foxtail Barns

    Cake, a first dance,
and a party barn that came alive after dark.

There is always a natural lull as the day tips into the evening, some guests heading off to freshen up at the Tawny Hotel or the pod lodges on site, others working off the wedding breakfast before the party guests arrive. I use it to keep documenting quietly, then it is into the party barn for the cake cutting and the first dance. Antonia and Harvey had both a traditional cake and a tower of cheese, and took to the floor for their first dance before the room opened up for the night.

And then the dance floor did what good dance floors do. It is always a joy watching the reserved daytime guests transform into the night-time party, and I am happy to stay a little longer to catch it. By the time I left, the party barn was in full swing.

Final Thoughts on Foxtail Barns Wedding Photos

Foxtail is one of Staffordshire’s leading exclusive-use wedding venues, and after a day like Antonia and Harvey’s it is easy to see why it books up so fast. The woodland and walled gardens, the pod lodges, the orangery for your ceremony and the party barn for your evening, it gives a couple everything in one place, and the Foxtail Barns reviews from couples who have married there tell the same story. If you are considering it, whether your day is intimate and romantic or lively and loud, you will not be disappointed.

The best venues do not just host your day. They give it room to become itself.

If you are still weighing up where to marry near Stoke-on-Trent, it is worth seeing the wider field, my roundup of the best Staffordshire wedding venues is a good place to start. And if Foxtail is already booked, get in touch, I would love to hear all about your plans.

    Redhouse Barn Photos

Rosie and Connor’s full day at the Stoke Prior barns, from bridal preps to the dance floor

    Scroll

Redhouse Barn sits in the countryside at Stoke Prior, just outside Bromsgrove, and it is one of those venues where the photos take half the work out of my hands. Rosie and Connor booked me for full-day coverage of their wedding there, and this post is the whole story, a proper look through their Redhouse Barn photos from the bridal suite in the morning to a dance floor powered by a trumpeter and a drummer at night.

It was a big, joyful day. Ten bridesmaids, vintage Rolls Royces, a saxophonist entrance that nearly took the roof off, and a venue that gives a Redhouse Barn wedding photographer a new backdrop around every corner.

Stoke Prior is right in the middle of my patch, so if you are planning a day at the barns or anywhere nearby, this is a good look at my wedding photography in Worcestershire from first thing in the morning to last thing at night.

    Stage 01 / Bridal Preps

    Bridal Preps at Redhouse Barn

With full-day coverage I aim to be at the venue a couple of hours before the ceremony, and the drive through the Worcestershire countryside to Redhouse Barns is a lovely way to start any working day. Up in the bridal suite, Rosie and her ten bridesmaids were mid-preparation in matching pyjama robes, with hair and makeup in full swing and the big windows flooding the room with natural light.

Dresses on the hangers, shoes out of their boxes, perfume waiting on the side. The quiet details of a wedding morning tell the story just as well as the big moments, so I always give them a few frames of their own before the room gets busy.

The grown-ups were not the only ones getting ready.

The littlest members of the wedding party had their own moments worth documenting, tiny shoes laced up, a helping hand for granddad, and a sign carried with the seriousness only a page boy can manage.

Then the dress went on, and the room changed. A few happy tears arrived right on schedule as the girls caught their first look at Rosie, and the flower girl got her moment in front of the camera too. These red house barn wedding photos are always among my favourites of any day, the last quiet minutes before everything begins.

    The Ceremony at Redhouse Barns

    moments before the aisle.

The redbrick barn was full and buzzing by the time I took my position, with Connor waiting at the front, lit by the daylight pouring through the sliding doors. Then the music started, and Rosie arrived on her dad’s arm for the handover every wedding photographer quietly holds their breath for.

The ceremony was short and full of meaning, all held hands and grins. One detail worth knowing if you are still choosing a venue: the acoustics in this barn are genuinely superb, every word carried to the back row without a microphone in sight. The page boy delivered the rings with maximum concentration, and the smallest guests watched the whole thing unfold from the best seats in the house.

Husband and wife, announced to a barn full of applause. While Rosie and Connor signed the register, the guests got their own cameras out for keepsake photos, always one of my favourite candid moments of any redhouse barn wedding to catch from the side.

Out to the rear courtyard, with the Worcestershire countryside on all sides.

With the ceremony done, everyone spilled out to the rear courtyard for drinks and live music, with the gardens and open countryside stretching away behind. Rosie and Connor had laid on garden games too, giant Jenga, table tennis and a football knocking about, which kept the guests happily occupied and gave me a courtyard full of relaxed, candid barn wedding photos to work through, pints, canapes and all.

Once everyone had a drink in hand and ten minutes to settle, we gathered family and friends for the group photos, with the Worcestershire countryside as the backdrop and a bridal party this lively, you could not take a bad frame if you tried. I keep the formal list moving quickly so nobody spends their drinks reception standing in a line.

Then I stole Rosie and Connor away to the secluded gardens for their portrait session. I always let the couple decide how long this part runs, some want half an hour, some want five minutes and a drink. We took a relaxed ten, wandering between the backdrops scattered around the grounds, and let the photos come to us.

Ten minutes was all it took. A handsome groom, a radiant bride, and gardens that do half the work for you, these are the frames from that little wander, and they are some of my favourite redhouse barn photos of the whole day.

The Wedding Breakfast at Redhouse Barn

A saxophonist, a standing ovation of an entrance, and the speeches to follow.

Then came the entrance. Rosie and Connor had arranged a saxophonist to play them into the wedding breakfast over a fast track, and the room simply detonated. Guests on their feet, cheering, children flung into the air, and the newlyweds dancing their way to the top table. In more than a decade of photographing weddings, it remains one of the most electric scenes I have shot.

Guests on their feet as the newlyweds make their entrance at Redhouse Barn

Phones came out, shoulders became seats, and for a few minutes the wedding breakfast looked more like a festival. If you are hunting for barn wedding photo ideas, an entrance like this one is worth every second of planning, it set the tone for the entire evening to come.

The speeches were a proper three-hander. The father of the bride led with the tender stuff, the groom followed with a few well-earned thank-yous, and the best man closed with material I could not possibly repeat here. Not everyone is a natural public speaker, and honestly it does not matter one bit, the raw emotion is what makes the photographs.

My camera barely pointed at the speakers. The real photographs live in the faces listening, Rosie welling up at her dad’s words one minute, Connor creased with laughter the next.

And then there were the best man moments, the ones where the whole top table braces at once. Whatever he said, these two frames tell you everything about how it landed.

Cake, a first dance, and a trumpeter and drummer to raise the roof.

As the evening guests arrived, the hugs came thick and fast, and the photo booth Rosie and Connor had set up started earning its keep. Props on, poses struck, and a steady stream of zany group shots that I happily photographed people posing for.

We moved into the rustic timber barn for the cake cutting and the first dance. After the energy of that wedding breakfast entrance, I had high hopes for this dance floor, and Rosie and Connor did not disappoint, wrapped up in each other while the whole room circled in close.

Rosie is a proper music lover, so alongside the DJ she had hired a trumpeter and a drummer to drive the dance floor, and it worked exactly as intended. At one point Connor commandeered the drum kit himself, which tells you everything about how the night was going.

By the time I packed my cameras away, the dance floor was wall to wall and showing no signs of slowing. Days like this one are exactly why I do full-day coverage, the story runs from a quiet bridal suite at nine in the morning to this, and every chapter earns its place.

Final Thoughts on Redhouse Barn Wedding Photos

Rosie and Connor’s day had everything, a moving ceremony, a wedding breakfast entrance I will be telling couples about for years, and an evening that never let up. Redhouse Barns earns its multi-award-winning reputation, the buildings, the gardens and the backdrops around Stoke Prior give a photographer more to work with than most venues in Worcestershire, and the Redhouse Barn reviews from couples who have married there say the same. If you are considering it for your own day, you will not be disappointed.

The best wedding photos come from days planned around joy, not around the camera.

If you are still comparing venues near Bromsgrove, it is worth seeing how a day runs at more than one, this post from a wedding at Manor Hill House makes a good side-by-side. And if Redhouse Barn is already booked, get in touch, I would genuinely love to be back.

    Bridal Preps at Shustoke Barn

My day started at Kerry’s house, where she was getting ready with her bridesmaids in the most relaxed way possible. No panic, no drama, just hair and makeup underway, dresses hanging by the window, and the odd glass of champagne doing the rounds. This is my favourite kind of Shustoke Barn wedding photography, the quiet documentary hour before anything official happens, when the shoes come out of the box and someone inevitably cries at the flowers.

Kerry even took a turn on bridesmaid duty herself, pinning hair between her own makeup sittings. Once everyone was ready we stepped into the garden for a few group photos with the bouquets, then made our way over to the barn.

    Stage 03 / The Ceremony

    The Ceremony at Shustoke Barn

I slipped into the ceremony room and took my place near Ian just in time to catch Kerry being walked down the aisle by her son. A barn ceremony gives a wedding photographer everything to work with, natural light pouring through, high ceilings, exposed beams, and forty faces all turned the same way.

The ceremony itself was short and full of warmth, hands held the whole way through. Civil ceremonies at Shustoke Barn happen right in the heart of the old building, and with an intimate guest list like this one, every reaction in the room is close enough to catch.

Rings on, first kiss done, and half the room raised their phones to capture it. I love those meta-moments, photographing the people photographing the couple, because that is exactly what a documentary barn wedding photographer is there for, the reactions as much as the main event.

Register signed, and Mr and Mrs walked back up the aisle to a wall of cheers before spilling out into the courtyard, where a line of guests and a lot of confetti were waiting for them.

    Stage 04 / Drinks Reception

The Drinks Reception at Shustoke Barn

Everyone spilled out into the courtyard, and if you have not seen this corner of the Shustoke wedding venue yet, it is worth the visit alone. Fire pits, plenty of seating and olive trees that make it feel closer to an Italian piazza than a spot just off the Coleshill road. While drinks went round, the wedding magician, Close-Up Chris, worked the crowd, which is a gift for any photographer, because every trick lands as a genuine reaction and the camera just has to be pointing the right way.

The magician saved a special set for Kerry and Ian themselves, and watching the bride try to work out how he did it was one of my favourite moments of the afternoon. I stole the wedding party away for a few portraits between tricks, then let the couple get back to their guests.

While everyone was outside, the Shustoke staff quietly transformed the barn for the wedding breakfast. Stepping back inside to find the tables dressed and glowing is always a treat, and I made sure to photograph the details on each table before the guests were called in. If table styling is high on your list, this venue gives you plenty to work with, take a look at my guide to wedding detail photos for what I look for on every table.

    Stage 05 / Group Shots

    Group Shots at Shustoke Barn

We headed to the front of the venue for the group photos, with the main barn as the backdrop and the cypress trees lending the whole scene a distinctly Italian feel. Group shots are the most traditional part of my barn wedding photography, and I keep them short and sweet on purpose. Not everyone loves posing, so I guide people through quickly, get the combinations that matter, and hand everyone back to the bubbly and canapes. The sooner the formal list is done, the sooner the natural, candid moments come back, and those are the ones couples end up framing.

Bride portrait in the grounds at Shustoke Barn

With forty guests, the full group photos come together quickly, and looking down the line at everyone Kerry and Ian love most, gathered in one frame in front of the barn, is exactly why these shots earn their place on the list.

Wedding group photo in front of Shustoke Farm Barns

In between the bigger set-ups I pulled Kerry and Ian aside for a few portraits of their own, plus a couple of quieter frames, Ian looking sharp, and Kerry showing off the lucky charm she carried down the aisle. Small details like that are easy to miss on the day and lovely to have afterwards.

    Speeches at Shustoke Barn

Laughter, a few tears, and the barn at its best.

Before the speeches, guests worked through a meal that lived up to the Cripps reputation, and I was kindly fed too, eating in style out by the olive trees while the weather held. Then the champagne was poured, the room settled, and the speeches began.

Speeches are where I earn my keep as a documentary photographer, because you cannot pose a reaction like these. Kerry went from tears to laughter and back again, and every one of those expressions is now hers to keep. That was my cue to bow out, as the barn began its turnaround for the evening party and the first dance.

Final Thoughts on Shustoke Barn Wedding Photos

There are venues I photograph once and venues I hope to keep coming back to, and Shustoke Barn sits firmly in the second group. As a Shustoke Barn wedding venue for smaller celebrations it is hard to fault, the courtyard does the drinks reception for you, the ceremony room needs no dressing up, and the light inside that old barn makes every frame easier. And you do not have to take my word for it, the Shustoke Barn reviews from couples who have married there tell the same story.

Kerry and Ian’s day was proof that an intimate wedding loses nothing for being small. Forty guests, one gorgeous barn, and a set of wedding photos full of the people they love most.

The best barn weddings are not the biggest ones. They are the ones where every guest matters.

If you are still choosing your venue, it is worth seeing how a day unfolds at more than one, this post from a wedding at Mythe Barn makes a good comparison. And if Shustoke is already booked and you have got questions, please get in touch, I would love to hear about your plans.

Dawn and Paul’s black-tie celebration in Shropshire

Some weddings have a particular kind of polish, and Dawn and Paul’s was one of them. A black-tie affair at Hawkstone Hall in Shropshire, and if you know me, you know how much I love a black-tie wedding. Guests sipped Aperol spritzes on the lawn, playfully guessing how long the speeches might run.

There were lovely touches everywhere. The groom surprised the bride with a Cartier necklace to wear for the day, and the bridesmaids looked wonderful in baby blue, which suited the elegant feel of the whole thing perfectly.

As a Hawkstone Hall wedding photographer, this is exactly the sort of day I love to document. If you are weighing up venues in the county, you can also read about how I work across Shropshire.

    Getting Ready at Hawkstone Hall

Arriving at Hawkstone Hall on a wedding morning is always a treat. The place is calm and quiet, with just enough excitement building as the day starts to take shape. I like to get there a couple of hours before the ceremony, so there is time to settle in and catch the small details, the dress hanging ready, the shoes and rings, a quiet laugh between friends.

The bridal suite here, the Brontë Bridal Wing, is built for exactly this. Light and spacious with views over the gardens, proper hair and makeup stations, room to hang the dresses and a breakfast buffet to keep everyone going. Nobody feels rushed, which is when the best getting-ready photos happen.

    The Ceremony at Hawkstone Hall

Vows in the Chapel, to the sound of a string quartet

Hawkstone Hall gives you a real choice of settings for the ceremony, and Dawn and Paul chose the Chapel. A string quartet filled the room as friends and family waited, and Dawn was breathtaking as she came down arm in arm with her dad. Rings exchanged, first kiss, and the register signed, all in one of the prettiest rooms in the house.

The rest of the Hall is just as striking, from the ornate ceilings of the Ballroom and the tall arched windows of the Saloon to the light, airy Winter Garden. Wherever you look, it is a luxury venue that gives you a beautiful backdrop for the day.

With the ceremony done, the drinks reception got going and everyone’s favourite summer drink was flowing. It is always a joy to see guests relax into the day, and for these ninety minutes I stick to my candid style, catching the laughter, the hugs and the happy little moments as they happen.

Once Dawn and Paul had been thoroughly congratulated, we set aside about fifteen minutes for a few group shots. I keep those quick and easy, because the day is about making memories rather than standing in front of a camera, and then everyone gets straight back to the celebrating.

A few quiet minutes with the couple in the grounds

Somewhere in the middle of all the celebrating, I stole Dawn and Paul away for a little while. Just a few quiet minutes, the two of them, away from the crowd. Hawkstone Hall gives you so much to work with, the house itself, the grounds, the water, that you do not need long to come away with portraits that feel like them.

These are often the photos couples treasure most, the calm ones taken while everyone else was busy having fun. A held hand, a quiet look, the last of the light. Then back to the party before anyone noticed they were gone.

Fine food and heartfelt speeches in the Ballroom

We are about halfway through the day at this point, and I always enjoy the breather over the meal. It is a chance to look back through what I have caught so far and recharge, both the batteries and myself, before the speeches begin in the Ballroom.

Once the plates were cleared it was time for the speeches, and there is always that lovely mix of nerves and anticipation, especially over what the best man has planned. These ones hit every note, short, warm and full of heart. What I love most is catching the genuine reactions, the laughter, the big smiles, the occasional tear. Side note: the food at Hawkstone Hall was delicious.

Lawn games, a photo booth, and a dancefloor that ran late

Paul and Dawn welcomed the evening guests, everyone ready to celebrate and party the night away. The day guests drifted outside for some fresh air and a few lawn games first, before the cake cutting and the first dance. Paul and Dawn had also laid on a photo booth with a pile of fun props, always a great way to get everyone involved and snapping silly photos together.

Then the floor filled and stayed full. The dancefloor buzzed with laughter and energy, friends and family throwing everything into a perfect summer evening. Once I had plenty of the dancing, I said goodbye to Paul and Dawn and looked forward to editing these Hawkstone Hall photos for them to keep.

Some venues you photograph once and admire. Birtsmorton Court is one I keep coming back to. A moated manor house at the foot of the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire, it is exclusive-use for the whole day, with immaculate gardens, water at every turn, and more places to shoot than one wedding could ever use.

As a Birtsmorton Court wedding photographer I have been lucky enough to capture several weddings here, and Surbin and Niall’s summer day is one of my favourites. The gardens carried the group and couple photos, the White Garden staged the ceremony, and the house itself gave every frame a backdrop most venues can only dream of.

This one promised something a little different too. Surbin and Niall wove in elements of Surbin’s Korean heritage, and her aunt had sent over matching hanbok, traditional Korean attire, for the couple to wear at the drinks reception and wedding breakfast. If you are weighing up venues in the county, you can also read about how I work across Worcestershire.

    Getting Ready at Birtsmorton Court

Surbin and Niall had exclusive use of the whole venue, so the day started in the bridal suite with the good kind of chaos: hair and makeup underway, bridesmaids in and out, and Surbin’s mum quietly taking it all in. Those unposed moments between the three of them are always my favourite part of the morning.

Between the suite and the ceremony I had time to explore the grounds. Birtsmorton Court gives couples three very different options for the ceremony itself: the traditional church, the grand Great Hall, and the White Garden, which was Surbin and Niall’s choice. While the bride finished getting ready, I found Niall and his best man out by the maze-like hedges that lead up to the garden.

Vows in the White Garden, to the sound of trickling fountains and the Malvern Hills beyond

Surbin walked in behind her bridesmaids, her dad at her side, to the sound of the water fountains that edge the White Garden. It is one of the calmest, prettiest spots to say your vows anywhere in Worcestershire, and the weather held, which with a British summer is never a given.

Rings exchanged, the celebrant announced them husband and wife, and the applause carried out across the gardens and off towards the Malvern Hills. Then the walk back down the aisle as a married couple, all smiles, the best kind of photographs to take.

    Drinks Reception at Birtsmorton Court

With the champagne poured, Surbin and Niall had a few quiet minutes together before the well-wishes started. We spread the reception across two spots, the lawns first, with an acoustic guitarist playing, then the south-facing Terrace that looks out over the moat. Having the run of the grounds is one of the joys of an exclusive-use venue like this.

Then came the surprise the couple had been keeping back. They slipped away and changed into matching hanbok, traditional Korean attire sent over by Surbin’s aunt, honouring Surbin’s heritage. While the guests made their way towards the marquee, I took the newlyweds off for a few portraits in their new outfits, a lovely nod to a Korean wedding woven into an English country day.

Then the speeches. There were some genuinely touching moments, not least from Surbin’s dad, and Niall took a brave run at part of his in Korean, which went down brilliantly. Those personal touches are what make a day feel like the couple’s own.

Claire & Ashley’s summer wedding at Manor Hill House, Bromsgrove.

Some venues you photograph once and remember for years. Manor Hill House is one of them, a country house set in its own landscaped grounds near Bromsgrove, with rolling views of the Worcestershire countryside and a choice of ceremony spots that each feel completely different. It has quietly become one of my favourite places to photograph a wedding.

This was my second time capturing a Manor House wedding in Worcester’s green belt, and Claire and Ashley’s day showed off everything the venue does well, the gardens, the marquee, the light, and a few unforgettable characters (Ed the horse included). If you are looking at Manor Hill House weddings and wondering how the day flows, this is exactly how it unfolds.

I photograph weddings right across the county, so if you would like to see how I work across Worcestershire, you can. But for now, let me walk you through Claire and Ashley’s day, from the first quiet moments of the morning to the last dance under the marquee lights.

Manor Hill House · The Morning

    Bridal Preps

I always arrive a couple of hours before the ceremony, and Manor Hill House gives you a beautiful, light-filled bridal suite to spend that morning in. Claire was being pampered by her hair and makeup team, surrounded by her bridesmaids in matching silk pyjamas, the kind of relaxed, happy morning that makes for the loveliest bridal prep photos.

These early hours are where the small details live, the dress, the bouquet, the exchange of gifts, and time-honoured touches like the bride’s garter going on. It is also when the day’s energy starts to build, and I quietly capture it all as the venue receives its final touches.

    The Ceremony

Vows on the lawn, in front of the flower-dressed gazebo.

Claire and Ashley chose to marry on the expansive lawn, in front of the gazebo our florist had dressed in trailing foliage. Ashley held his emotions together admirably as Claire made her way down the aisle on her father’s arm, and the whole ceremony had that warm, open-air feel that Manor Hill House does so beautifully. These are the Manor Hill House wedding photos couples come back to again and again, the vows, the rings, the first moments as newlyweds.

    The Drinks Reception

With the ceremony done, the celebration spilled out into the grounds for the drinks reception. This is where Manor Hill House really comes into its own, guests spread across the gardens, children running about, and of course Ed the horse looking on from his stable, never one to miss the party.

I spend this part of the day quietly documenting it all, the reunions and warm hugs, the laughter, and the little moments between guests that make each wedding feel like nobody else’s.

A relaxed wander through the grounds, just the two of you.

The couple portraits are a moment that belongs entirely to Claire and Ashley. We took a slow wander through the grounds, no rush and no stiff posing, just the two of them, the fields, and the soft light Manor Hill House is made for. Ashley even stopped to help Claire into her wellies, the kind of unguarded moment that ends up being everyone’s favourite. These are some of the Manor Hill House wedding photos I am proudest of.

    Breakfast & Speeches

The Manor Hill House marquee is a sight in itself, elegant chandeliers, draped walls, and clear windows that flood the room with natural light. Claire and Ashley were welcomed in by a room full of cheering guests, and after the meal came the speeches, that heartfelt whirlwind of smiles, tears and laughter.

The best man had the room in stitches, and there was a lovely quiet moment as Claire caught her father’s eye across the table. These are the beats of the day I always love to photograph, real and unposed.

    The Evening Reception

Cake, the first dance, and a marquee full of light.

As the light softened, guests found cosy corners to catch their breath before the evening kicked off. Then came the cake, the first dance under the lit marquee, and a dancefloor that did not empty until the very end. Claire and Ashley had live musicians and a DJ, and the room stayed full all night. Your Manor Hill House Wedding

Claire and Ashley’s day showed off everything I love about Manor Hill House weddings, the gardens, the marquee, the easy warmth of the place, and yes, Ed the horse. It is a Manor House wedding venue near Bromsgrove that keeps climbing my list of favourites, and the reviews from couples who marry there tell the same story. If you are planning your own Manor Hill House wedding, I would be glad to be the one behind the camera, capturing it exactly as it unfolds.

Some venues you photograph once and never forget.

You can see more of how I work across Worcestershire, and when you are ready, tell me your date. I would love to hear all about your day at Manor Hill House.

Emma & Dan, a Cotswold barn wedding at Stow-on-the-Wold

    Scroll

Some venues you photograph once and remember for years. Hyde House is one of them. Tucked along the Fosse Way just outside Stow-on-the-Wold, it sits in that pocket of the Cotswolds where the countryside seems to roll on forever, honey-stone villages one minute, open hills the next. When Emma and Dan asked me to document their day here, I said yes before I had finished reading the message.

What follows is their wedding told as it happened, from the quiet of the morning preparations through to the last dance of the night. A Cotswold barn, an exclusive-use country house, golden light across the fields, and two people who were entirely themselves in front of the camera all day. It is the kind of wedding that reminds me why I do this.

I work all over the country, but I have a real soft spot for this corner of it, you can see more of my wedding photography in the Cotswolds if you are planning a day of your own nearby. For now, let me walk you through Emma and Dan’s.

    Stage 01 · The Morning

    Bridal Preps at Hyde House

Silk pyjamas, soft light, and the calm before the day begins.

The morning at Hyde House is unhurried in the best way. With the whole house to themselves, Emma and her bridesmaids spread out across the bridal suite, hair and makeup underway, a bottle of something cold going round, music low in the background. It is my favourite part of the day to photograph, everyone relaxed, no eyes on the camera yet, the anticipation building quietly.

I move between rooms catching the small things as they happen, a bridesmaid steadying a glass, the dress waiting on its hanger, the last earring going in. Then the dress itself, and the first real catch of breath. Just before we left for the ceremony came the moment I had been hoping for, Emma’s dad seeing his daughter ready for the first time. You do not pose a moment like that. You just make sure you are standing in the right place when it arrives.

    Stage 02 · The Groom

Dan & the Groomsmen at Hyde House

While the bridal suite filled with champagne and chatter, Dan and his groomsmen were having their own quieter version of the same thing, a cigar in hand, a drink poured, the easy banter of old friends with an hour to spare before everything began.

There is a particular kind of nervous energy to the groom’s morning, more understated than the bride’s, but it is there if you know where to look. I caught the best man with his buttonhole in place, then the slow walk over towards the ceremony barn as the first guests began to arrive.

    The Ceremony at Hyde House

Ceremonies at Hyde House take place in The Grange, a light, modern barn that seats up to a hundred and fifty, with a courtyard and the open Cotswold countryside just beyond the doors. As the bridal party made their way over and the last guests took their seats, the morning’s quiet anticipation gave way to something sharper.

At the front, Dan waited with his groomsmen, hands betraying the nerves his face was trying to hide. It is one of the quietest, most honest moments of any wedding day, the last few minutes before everything changes.

The Grange itself does a lot of the work, oak beams, tall windows, and the Cotswold fields framed in the doorway. After the vows came the part everyone waits for, a walk back out through a tunnel of cheering guests into the afternoon light.

    Stage 04 · The Celebration

    The Drinks Reception

Confetti, congratulations, and the whole of Hyde House to themselves.

With the ceremony done, I always give a newly married couple their first moment alone, a few quiet minutes as husband and wife before the celebration sweeps them up. Then it is confetti, congratulations, and drinks on the lawn.

Because Hyde House is yours exclusively for the day, the whole estate becomes the backdrop, the rolling Cotswold countryside on every side, perfect for the easy, unposed moments I love to catch while the drinks go round.

    Stage 05 · Together

    Group Photos & Portraits

The group shots done quickly, then time for just the two of them.

I keep the group photos quick and painless, a short list agreed in advance, family and bridal party gathered and done inside twenty minutes so nobody misses the party. With little ones in the mix there is always a moment that goes happily off-script, and those are usually my favourites.

With the family and bridal party sorted, it was time for the part Emma and Dan had been looking forward to, a little while away from the crowd, just the two of them. I never rush this. We wandered the grounds, the Cotswold light doing exactly what you want it to in the late afternoon, and let the photos happen rather than forcing them.

Stage 06 · The Wedding Breakfast

    Speeches & Toasts

The food Hyde House is known for, then the speeches everyone waits for.

Then it was inside for the wedding breakfast, and the food Hyde House is rightly known for. Once the plates were cleared came the speeches, and these were a good set. The best man mixed the expected ribbing with something genuinely heartfelt, the groom held his own, and Emma broke with tradition to say a few words herself, which went down a storm.

Speeches are where a room really shows itself, the laughter, the wiping of eyes, the groom hiding behind his hands when the best man lands a good one. I move quietly around the edges for these, watching the top table and the guests in equal measure, because the reactions are often the best part.

    The Evening Reception

Golden hour, the cake, the first dance, and a full floor.

As the evening drew in, we slipped out for a few last frames in the golden hour, that soft, low Cotswold light that makes the whole estate glow. Emma and Dan were more than happy to steal another ten minutes away from the party for it.

Back inside, the celebration shifted up a gear. A casino and roulette table kept guests busy, the limbo came out, and once the cake was cut and the first dance done, the floor stayed full into the night. This is the loose, joyful end of the day, and I stay light on my feet for it, chasing the moments as they happen.

    Iona & Tommy’s New Year’s Eve celebration

    Scroll

There is something undeniably special about New Year’s Eve. It is a time of anticipation, celebration, and new beginnings, and when you combine that energy with a wedding day, you get something genuinely magic. That is exactly what happened when Iona and Tommy invited me to capture their celebration at Grange Wedding Barn.

They chose a venue that perfectly suited the season and the mood they wanted to create. It was a day full of laughter, candlelight, and a serious party atmosphere as everyone counted down to midnight. If you are considering a winter wedding, or looking for that perfect rustic spot, here is a look at how their stunning day unfolded.

Getting Ready at Grange Wedding Barn

The morning began with all the little details that set the tone for a winter wedding. Iona had chosen sophisticated seasonal styling over anything cliché, and it showed in every corner, from the dress hanging ready to the finer touches waiting to be worn.

While the hair and makeup team worked their magic, the room had that lovely calm buzz of a wedding morning. These quiet, focused moments are some of my favourites to photograph before the day picks up pace.

Before heading in, there was time for the people who matter most, a moment with mum and dad, the flower girl, and the bridal party in their gold and green, all set against the warm tones of the barn.

    A Bagpiper & the Arrival

As guests gathered, a bagpiper set the tone for the day, his music carrying across the winter air. Inside, the groom waited and caught up with arriving guests, while Iona made her way to the barn. There is always a lovely electric feeling in these last few minutes before a ceremony begins.

We stole a little time away for some portraits of the two of them. Iona and Tommy told me they were not naturals in front of a camera, but you would never know it, they relaxed quickly and we came away with some beautiful, easy frames against the winter backdrop.

    My Approach

Capturing the Day as it Happens

Weddings like this one remind me why I love what I do. My style is relaxed and candid, focused on the moments as they unfold, the laughter during speeches, the tear in a parent’s eye, the chaos and joy of the dance floor. If you are curious how those early moments come together, take a look at my guide to getting ready on your wedding morning.

A December wedding brings its own challenges. The days are short and the light fades fast, so for Iona and Tommy’s micro wedding I had my flash ready to keep every moment crisp once the sun went down. Rather than fighting the dark, we embraced it, and the result was a set of images that felt warm, intimate, and true to the evening.

If you want stiff, formal posing for hours, I am probably not your girl. But if you want someone who blends in, has a laugh with your guests, and hands you a gallery full of real emotion, we might be a great fit. You can see more of how I work across Cheshire, or have a read of my questions to ask your photographer before you book anyone.

    Let’s Chat About Your Day

    A Winter Wedding to Remember

Iona and Tommy’s New Year’s Eve celebration had everything, candlelight, character, a room full of people who had travelled from across the world, and a serious party atmosphere as midnight drew closer. It was a joy to photograph from start to finish.

    David & Ella-Mae’s Italian-themed summer day

    Scroll

Hi, I’m Jordan, a wedding photographer in Oxfordshire, and I recently spent a beautiful summer’s day at the lovely Stratton Court Barn. These are some of my favourite Stratton Court Barn photos, from David and Ella-Mae’s wedding, an idyllic countryside venue that turned out to be the perfect setting for a romantic, intimate celebration.

Theirs was an Italian-themed day, complete with limoncello favours, dancing in the courtyard, and all the usual joyful moments alongside a few lovely surprises. If you photograph as much of this county as I do, you can see more about how I work across Oxfordshire, but for now, let me rewind and take you through their day from the very beginning.

    The Morning

    Bridal Preps in the Hayloft

I arrived a couple of hours before the ceremony and wandered the venue, taking in all the little details David and Ella-Mae had put in place. Then I joined Ella-Mae and her bridesmaids in the Hayloft, where the hair and makeup team were busy and the mood was relaxed and full of anticipation. I love this part of the day, catching the details and the quiet moments before everything begins.

There is always something special about the dress. David also pulled off a lovely surprise, sending Ella-Mae a bouquet of white roses, and she had written him a letter in return, a quiet exchange I was glad to catch before the day got going.

Then came Tequila Rose shots for the bride and her crew, a fun twist before the ceremony. Meanwhile, Ella-Mae’s father was waiting for that first look at his daughter, one of those moments that always carries a little weight.

    The Ceremony

An Unplugged Day in the Main Barn

At Stratton Court you can marry outdoors or in the main barn, and David and Ella-Mae chose the barn, with its sturdy oak beams and soft natural light. At their request it was an unplugged ceremony, phones away, everyone present, which meant I had the moments all to myself to photograph. Little touches like the chair decorations and the unplugged sign set the tone before anyone took their seats.

With the groom waiting at the front, Ella-Mae walked in with her father to become the centre of everyone’s attention. There were a few happy tears, as there often are, and the ceremony was full of warmth as the two of them said their vows in front of everyone who mattered.

After the vows came the signing of the register, with both sets of parents close by, and then the walk back as a married couple. Outside, their guests were waiting with confetti, always one of my favourite moments to photograph.

After the confetti, guests spilled out into the courtyard to congratulate the couple and grab a drink. Alongside the champagne were two signature cocktails made for the day, the groom’s Italiano Fizzano and the bride’s St Germain Spritz, a nod to their Italian theme. There were garden games on the lawn and limoncello favours waiting inside, all the little touches that make a day feel like theirs.

There was a lovely surprise too, a saxophonist whose playing drifted across the courtyard, and before long David and Ella-Mae couldn’t resist a few moves of their own. I always love it when couples lay on extra entertainment like this, it gives guests something to gather around and gives me some brilliant, unguarded moments to photograph.

    Couple Portraits

A Few Quiet Moments in the Rose Garden

The portrait session is always led by the couple, and David and Ella-Mae were more than happy to have plenty taken. We made the most of the manicured formal gardens and the expansive lawn, with the rolling Oxfordshire countryside behind them. They looked completely at ease, and it shows.

    The Wedding Breakfast

    Into the Barn for Dinner

The barn was set beautifully for the wedding breakfast, from the table plan to the limoncello favours that tied the whole Italian theme together. As guests took their seats and David and Ella-Mae made their entrance as a married couple, I caught the details before everyone sat down to eat.

    A Bit of Fun

    The Mr & Mrs Quiz

Before the speeches came a Mr and Mrs quiz, which is always good for a laugh and usually a few red faces. If you are thinking of doing one yourself, I have put together a list of Mr and Mrs questions to get you started.

    The Speeches

    Heartfelt & Hilarious

The speeches were everything you want them to be, warm, funny, and a little emotional. While the guests tucked into their meal, I had run through the photos so far and grabbed a glass of something fizzy from the bar, then came back to catch every laugh and happy tear.

As the evening rolled in, it was time for the first dance. There is always a lovely shift around this point in the day, when the formal parts are done and everyone relaxes into the celebration. David and Ella-Mae took to the floor, and the room filled in around them.

Is Stratton Court Barn a Good Wedding Venue?

It is always a great day at Stratton Court Barn, and David and Ella-Mae’s was no exception. The atmosphere was relaxed, the weather was kind, and the couple were surrounded by the people who matter most. Between the main barn, the courtyard, and the rose garden, the venue gives you variety in every direction, which makes for a beautiful, varied gallery.

If the reviews and the photos have you considering it, I would say go and see it for yourself. And if you are looking for a Stratton Court Barn wedding photographer to capture your day in a relaxed, light and airy way, I would love to hear from you. Wedding Photography at Mythe Barn

    Sophie & Nathan’s summer celebration

    Scroll

Hi, I’m Jordan. I love a barn wedding, with all that natural light, rustic charm and the very best photo opportunities. Mythe Barn sits between Warwickshire and the Leicestershire countryside, and it is one of the leading wedding venues for couples after a relaxed, magical day. These are some of my favourite Mythe Barn wedding photos, and I want to walk you through one of them.

Sophie and Nathan married here on a glorious June day, and their celebration showed off everything the venue does so well. If you are searching for a wedding photographer who works in this part of the world, you can read more about how I work across the county, but for now, let me take you through their day from the morning preparations to the last song of the night.

    The Morning

    Bridal Preps at Mythe Barn

I make it a point to arrive at the venue a good couple of hours before the ceremony. That gives me time to catch the candid getting-ready moments and the little details, explore the space, and settle into the bubbling excitement of the day ahead.

Sophie got ready in the Gallery, a beautiful light-filled room made for bridal preparations. Surrounded by her bridal party and makeup artist, all bustling to help her look her best, there was so much to photograph. I caught the dress, the details, and Sophie with her squad, blending a documentary approach with a few gentle portraits.

While Sophie’s preparations were in full swing, I slipped out to the oak barn and up to the minstrels’ gallery to catch the ceremony space while it was still quiet, and to say hi to Nathan as the first guests began to arrive.

    The Ceremony

    Vows in the Oak Barn

The ceremony space at Mythe Barn is one of my favourites to photograph. A double-height solid oak frame, floor-to-ceiling windows, and an uninterrupted view of the fields beyond. The décor is kept deliberately simple so the structure and the setting do the talking, with delicate hops hung from the balcony as a nod to the countryside outside. It is exactly the kind of light-filled room that makes for relaxed, natural barn wedding photos.

Sophie arrived with her father for the walk down the aisle, and the ceremony was full of love and laughter as she and Nathan exchanged their vows and sealed it with the first kiss. After signing the register, they stepped outside to the confetti, always one of the best moments of the day to photograph. If you love this style, you can see more of how I work across the county.

    The Reception

    A Sun-Filled Courtyard

This was a June wedding, and the weather played along beautifully. Guests spilled out into the courtyard and the front gardens, where lawn games were set up and a tray of something cold was never far away. It is one of my favourite parts of the day to photograph, with everyone relaxed, mingling, and catching up in the sunshine.

Sophie and Nathan had also booked a wedding magician, Close-Up Chris, who kept guests spellbound while the group photos were happening. You can see it in their faces. The reactions were brilliant, and it is exactly the kind of unplanned, genuine moment I love to catch.

    Groups & Portraits

    Everyone Together

The gardens at Mythe Barn make easy work of group photos.

    Group Shots

    The People Who Matter

I keep group shots relaxed and quick, just enough to make sure you go home with the combinations that matter, without anyone feeling like they are stuck in a queue. The gardens at Mythe Barn give plenty of pretty backdrops, so we gathered the bridal party and loved ones, set up the bouquet and a few easy formals, and were done in time for everyone to get back to their drinks.

    Romantic Portraits

    Just the Two of You

My style is relaxed, but I do love a portrait session with the couple. Over the years I have picked up a few quiet tricks to help people who are not used to being in front of a camera, though Sophie and Nathan barely needed them. Sophie comes from a theatrical background and was completely at ease, so we made the most of the venue and came away with some beautiful just-married portraits.

    Speeches in the Grain Store

Guests took their seats in the Grain Store to welcome Sophie and Nathan in as husband and wife before the meal. The food at Mythe Barn is genuinely good, and I was lucky enough to be fed too. While everyone ate, I used the time to back up the morning’s photos and recharge, then came back for the speeches, always one of my favourite parts of the day. Heartfelt, funny, a few happy tears. Top tip from a wedding photographer: always carry tissues.

    The Evening

Cake, First Dance & a Surprise

As the evening guests arrived, it was time for the cherished bits, cutting the cake and the first dance, before the live band took over the rustic barn. There was also a lovely surprise for Sophie, as her bridesmaids and her father performed a dance routine they had been rehearsing for weeks. I love moments like that, the ones nobody quite expects. Close-Up Chris was still working his magic too, this time from his Close-Up Corner, a little booth guests kept drifting back to all night.

The dance floor is one of my favourite places to be. It is where the day really lets go, and where the most genuine, unguarded photos happen.

    Final Thoughts

Is Mythe Barn a Good Wedding Venue?

Having photographed weddings here, I can say Mythe Barn ticks a lot of boxes. The oak barn itself is gorgeous, the team are genuinely helpful and accommodating, and the surrounding Leicestershire countryside gives you a beautiful backdrop in every direction. The light-filled ceremony room, the courtyard for drinks, the Grain Store for dinner, it all flows, which makes for a relaxed day and, honestly, better photos.

If the reviews and the photos have you considering it, I would say go and see it in person. And every couple I have had the pleasure of photographing here has been so warm and so happy on the day, which tells you plenty about the kind of weddings it draws.

A barn that makes an easy, beautiful day even easier.

If you are getting married at Mythe Barn and would like a relaxed, light and airy record of your day, I would love to hear from you. You can see what each package includes on the pricing page, or just get in touch to check your date.
