    A London City Micro Wedding

Emma & Stephen at Brunswick House

    Scroll

Emma and Stephen’s London city micro wedding was one of those days that stays with you. Held at Brunswick House, it brought together everything I love about an intimate city celebration: real charm, urban textures, and a small guest list that made the whole day feel personal.

A micro wedding trades scale for intimacy, fewer guests, more meaning, and it makes for a wonderfully creative day to photograph. If you are planning something similar, you can see more of my wedding photography in London, and read on for Emma and Stephen’s day from start to finish.

    The Morning

    Getting Ready at The Windmill

The day began at The Windmill, where I joined Emma for her bridal preparations. There was excitement in the air from the moment I arrived, her parents and close friends on hand to help, and the natural light through the windows making for some lovely, candid frames. Across the morning, Stephen and his best man were in high spirits as they got ready too, and catching that easy, happy energy is one of my favourite parts of the job.

If you are planning your own morning, I have put together my tips on wedding pictures of getting ready to help you make the most of it.

    The Ceremony

    Brunswick House Charm

An intimate city ceremony, full of urban character.

Brunswick House was the perfect setting for Emma and Stephen’s ceremony. The historic building’s textures and urban character made a striking backdrop for their vows. Things began at 3:30, a celebrant officiating the intimate gathering, guests welcomed by the soft sound of a pianist.

I love working with natural light, and Brunswick House’s low light was a real creative challenge. I leaned on my flash to make sure every moment landed, from the vows to the guests’ reactions, which is part of the fun of photographing a venue like this.

    The Reception

    Prosecco & Magic

After the ceremony the reception got going with prosecco, canapés and a bit of magic, quite literally. A close-up magician worked the room, and the guests’ reactions gave me no end of candid frames to catch. I always love when couples bring in something a little different like this; it keeps everyone engaged and makes for some of the most natural photos of the day.

    Just the Two of Them

    Portraits in the City

One of the quiet luxuries of a micro wedding is time. With a smaller guest list, Emma and Stephen could slip away for a little while, and we made the most of Brunswick House and the streets around it. The urban textures, the stairwell, a quick wander out into the city, it all made for relaxed, characterful portraits that felt completely them.

As the evening unfolded, guests were called through to the elegant dining room for dinner, followed by heartfelt toasts in the Smoking Room. Then came the cake, cut with plenty of laughter and served around the tables. The whole evening had that easy, close feeling a smaller wedding does so well.

    Final Thoughts

Why a London City Micro Wedding?

Emma and Stephen’s day is a perfect example of why city micro weddings are so popular. They are intimate, stylish and full of personality. Whether you are drawn to the urban character of a venue like Brunswick House or simply the idea of a smaller, more personal celebration, a micro wedding gives you room to make the day entirely your own.

From the quiet of the morning to the Cellars late at night, theirs was a joy to photograph start to finish, full of warmth, character and the kind of moments a smaller guest list makes space for.

If you are planning your own London celebration, you can see more of my wedding photography in London, or read about how I work across the day.

Fewer guests, more meaning. That is the heart of a micro wedding.

Rosie and Will married at Alrewas Hayes on a beautiful summer day, a secluded country estate in rural Staffordshire near Burton-on-Trent. I had the joy of photographing their full day, and what follows is their wedding, told the way it unfolded.

If you are planning your own day here, I hope this gives you a real feel for what Alrewas Hayes creates. You can see more of my wedding photography in Staffordshire across the county, and read on for Rosie and Will’s day from start to finish.

    Stage 01 / The Morning

    Getting Ready at Alrewas Hayes

I arrived at this secluded estate a good two hours before the ceremony, time to gather some quiet establishing shots while the venue was still and to move through the rooms catching the little details. Then up to meet Rosie, getting ready in the Theodore Suite with her daughter and bridesmaids.

The Theodore Suite is a beautiful room, total privacy, stunning views of the grounds and a huge bathroom under an oak-beamed ceiling. It is wonderfully light and airy, which suits my style perfectly. Prosecco, flowers and sweet moments filled the air as the girls got ready in the manor house.

Next I met up with Will in the courtyard, his best man making a few last adjustments to his suit and buttonhole before the guests began to arrive. It was a friendly, easy atmosphere, drinks served under the large gazebo as the day got going.

In the light-filled Orangery, with their daughter happily stealing the limelight.

As the guests filtered into the Orangery, I grabbed a quick moment with Rosie and her bridal party for some portraits. The Orangery is lit beautifully by natural light, exactly what I love to work with, and it lends the whole ceremony an elegant, airy feel.

A confetti tunnel, then drinks and canapés under the gazebo, rain or shine.

Alrewas Hayes recently added a large gazebo, which means the celebrations carry on whatever the weather. After a quick confetti shot, guests settled in to enjoy the drinks menu and canapés. I usually give everyone around twenty minutes to congratulate the happy couple before we move into the group shots and portraits.

Groups kept short and easy, then a relaxed few minutes with the newlyweds.

I like to keep the group photos as short as possible. The real magic of any wedding is in the natural, candid moments, so on this occasion we gathered the bridesmaids and immediate family for a quick, easy session and left it there.

Rosie & Will’s Alrewas Hayes Wedding Photos

Alrewas Hayes holds a special place in my heart, it is where I photographed my very first wedding. The Williams family have poured real care into creating a stunning setting, and it shows in every corner of the estate.

This historical country estate is a sought-after spot for weddings of every size, and a popular choice for Asian weddings too. The Great Barn seats up to 650 guests, the Lakeside up to 150, and the manor house has eleven bedrooms looking out over the Staffordshire woodland. Rosie and Will’s day was fun-filled and romantic from start to finish.

It is a privilege to come back to the place where it all began for me.

Guests are called in for their wedding feast and welcome Faye and Liam into the candle-lit Bookends suite. In true wedding day tradition, we go straight into the speeches, which is often one of my favourite parts of the day. You are never quite sure what you are going to get: awful jokes, heartfelt moments, raised eyebrows and the odd embarrassing story.

Happily there were none of the latter, and friends and family raised a toast to the happy couple in the warm candlelight of the Bookends suite.

    The Evening Reception

An autumn evening settles over the venue and the day eases into its slower, golden rhythm.

As the autumn evening falls, the day takes a slower pace. Guests drift between the Pebbles suite and the botanical bar, dressed in fresh florals, as the evening arrivals begin to appear. I keep capturing the natural, relaxed moments before we head back into the Bookends suite for the time-honoured traditions of the cake cutting and first dance.

The dance floor is always a fun time for a wedding photographer. It becomes the focal point of the evening, and there is nothing quite like watching the reserved day guests transform into the ones who close the place down. Cake cut, first dance done, the night belongs to everyone now.

Faye & Liam’s Standon Hall Wedding Photos

Standon Hall is a luxury wedding venue steeped in history and character, set just outside the quaint market town of Eccleshall. With its striking interiors, picturesque gardens and attentive team, it makes an elegant, characterful backdrop for a wedding, and Faye and Liam’s autumn day, Harry Potter theme and all, shows exactly what it can be.

From the morning preparations to the candle-lit Bookends suite and the last dance, it was a joy to photograph from start to finish.

The best days are the ones that feel relaxed and easy, exactly as they should.

Carrie & David, a spring wedding in full

    Scroll

Carrie and David married at Weston Hall in spring, and I had the joy of documenting the full day, from the quiet of bridal preparations through to the last dance of the evening reception. What follows is their wedding, told the way it unfolded.

I was with them from morning to night, around nine hours in all, moving through every part of the day as it happened. If you are planning your own celebration at Weston Hall, I hope this gives you a real feel for the day this venue creates.

You can see more of my wedding photography in Staffordshire across the county, and read on for Carrie and David’s day from start to finish.

    Stage 01 · Getting Ready

    The Morning at Weston Hall

I arrived around two hours before the ceremony. The first thing I always do is take a slow walk around the grounds, noting the styling, the light, and any little details that have changed since my last wedding here. Even after many weddings at Weston Hall, that quiet lap of the venue is something I never skip.

I found Carrie in the honeymoon suite, surrounded by her family and bridesmaids as hair and makeup came together. There was no rush to the morning. Plenty of room, plenty of time, and a glass of bubbly going round. It is the perfect setting for relaxed, candid photographs, with the dress taking centre stage.

From there I stepped into the Westminster Suite, the wedding breakfast room, to capture a few of the details laid out for the day. Then I joined David, who was remarkably calm, playing the host with ease as the first guests began to arrive.

    Stage 02 · The Ceremony

    The Ceremony at Weston Hall

There are a few spots to marry at Weston Hall, and today we were up in the Shrewsbury Suite on the top floor. It is a compact, intimate room, just right for a smaller, close-knit ceremony where everyone is gathered in close.

Friends and family settled in, and after a few words, a few vows and the rings exchanged, Carrie and David were announced husband and wife.

    Stage 03 · Drinks Reception

Drinks on the Terrace at Weston Hall

The weather held for Carrie and David, which meant the drinks reception could spill out onto the Terrace. Guests were entertained by a wonderful singer, who even coaxed a few of them up as backing vocalists.

The cocktail hour is one of my favourite parts of the day to photograph. It is relaxed and natural, everyone catching up over a drink, and it sets the tone nicely for the celebrations still to come.

We use the drinks reception to gather the group shots and, just as importantly, the portraits of the two of you. Your preferences guide how directed the session gets, from quiet candid moments through to a more focused set of portraits. Every couple wants something different, and I am always happy to follow your lead. Carrie has such an elegant, classic look, and David brought the fun, full of energy and the life of the party.

    Stage 05 · Speeches & Wedding Breakfast

Speeches & the Wedding Breakfast at Weston Hall

Guests were welcomed into the Westminster Suite to sit down and celebrate the newlyweds. I always suggest saving the speeches for after the meal. Guests can be waiting a while for food, and keeping everyone relaxed and content makes all the difference on a long day.

While the wedding breakfast was served, I slipped into the cellar restaurant to back up the morning’s photos and recharge. Guests, meanwhile, were treated to more entertainment from the singing waiters, who never fail to get a room laughing and chatting. Once the plates were cleared, I was back in to capture the speeches.

    Stage 06 · Evening Reception

The Evening Reception at Weston Hall

As the day eased into evening, guests slipped outside to catch the last of the light while the evening arrivals trickled in. I am usually with a couple for around nine hours, and that stretch into the night is where some of my favourite frames happen: the cake cutting, the first dance, and that first loosening of the dance floor as the night gets going.

Carrie & David’s Weston Hall Wedding Photos

Weston Hall is a grade II listed building set on the edge of the countryside, just a short hop from Stafford. The grounds, the elegant interiors and the warm service make it a much-loved spot for couples, and it photographs beautifully from the first light of the morning through to the dance floor at night.

Carrie and David’s day shows exactly why. A relaxed morning, an intimate ceremony up in the Shrewsbury Suite, drinks out on the Terrace and a wedding breakfast full of laughter, all of it told as it happened.

The best wedding photos are the ones you forgot were even being taken.

Alice & Rikhi at Pendrell Hall, Staffordshire

Hi, I’m Jordan Fox. Pendrell Hall, in Codsall Wood, Staffordshire, is one of my favourite venues to shoot at. It’s a regular fixture in my wedding photography in Staffordshire, and the grand Victorian interior, exclusive-use grounds and quiet woodland walks are the kind of features photographers fall for the first time they shoot here.

Introducing Alice & Rikhi, a couple I was lucky to photograph. Their day moved from gypsophila and morning light in the Morning Room to the dancefloor under the Ballroom mirrors, with a casino, a photo booth and a garden tree swing in between.

    Stage 01 / The Morning

The Bridal Preps at Pendrell Hall

With exclusive use of the Hall, the morning at Pendrell offers an intimate space for bridal preps. I usually arrive a couple of hours before the ceremony, taking a relaxed stroll around to capture the personal touches the couple have added.

Upstairs, Alice and her bridal party are mid-transformation. No instructions needed, I let the girls enjoy their moment and snap candid, editorial-style photos. Downstairs, the groom and his groomsmen are already suited up, naturals in front of the camera. Outside, kids are making the most of the garden tree swing (and yes, I may have sneaked a turn myself).

The Morning Room sits ready for the ceremony – white satin chairs, the gypsophila aisle, that clean classical vibe Pendrell does so well. Upstairs once more to check on Alice as her dad is called to fetch her, and his smile when he sees her in her dress is the kind of moment that needs no caption. By the time the bridesmaids start their descent, the day is properly underway.

    Stage 02 / The Vows

    The Ceremony at Pendrell Hall

Pendrell offers three ceremony options; an outdoor space and two indoor rooms. For Alice & Rikhi, it’s the Morning Room: two deep bay windows pulling in light off the manicured lawns and parkland beyond. The groom is already waiting as the bridal party makes their entrance in blush satin.

I keep the camera on the doorway as Alice approaches. Rikhi whispers something into her ear. Whatever he said, it seems to help. Smiles, the kind of tears that just appear, and the ones I always end up catching myself. One of the bridesmaids reads, the vows are exchanged, the first kiss lands.

The new Mr & Mrs Bhella walk back down the aisle to thunderous applause. Guests fall in behind them, phones up, ready for the celebratory champagne and the rest of the day.

The Drinks Reception at Pendrell Hall

Out onto the private driveway for the confetti shot at the fountain wall, then guests drift to the gardens to find Alice & Rikhi, grab a drink, and explore the rest of the venue. Meanwhile, I steal the couple and the immediate bridal party for portraits.

    Stage 04 / Just Them

    The Portraits at Pendrell Hall

Portraits at Pendrell take advantage of everything the venue offers; the gardens, the woodland edges, the lawns, the fountain wall on the private driveway. I’m always ready to guide couples through these sessions, and I tailor each one to the couple’s wishes: how long, how many photos, what kind.

Alice & Rikhi needed almost no direction. They’re naturals in front of the camera, which makes my job easy, and means we got the kind of unhurried, light-filled portraits that come out of a couple genuinely enjoying themselves.

    Stage 05 / The Ballroom

The Wedding Breakfast at Pendrell Hall

The Ballroom at Pendrell does double duty – it’s available for ceremonies as well as breakfasts. For Alice & Rikhi, it’s the breakfast venue: classic, elegant, with mirrored walls catching the light from every angle. The kind of space that makes the room itself part of the photograph.

The bride and groom make their grand entrance and guests find their seats, buzzing with anticipation for the speeches. This is one of my favourite parts of the day; the funny anecdotes, the heartfelt confessions, the short-and-sweet, the long-and-elaborate. What I’m really watching for is the spontaneous reactions: the laugh you didn’t know was coming, the tear from someone in the back row.

The Evening Reception at Pendrell Hall

As guests linger over the end of the wedding breakfast, there’s a gentle ease to the pace – a serene interlude before the evening kicks off. Guests are in full selfie mode (one of my favourite photographic moments), and the photo booth keeps people busy before the cake cutting and first dance.

Final Thoughts on Pendrell Hall Wedding Photos

The Pendrell Hall wedding venue does the practical work well. Morning Room with its bay windows for the ceremony, gardens for portraits, Ballroom mirrors for the reception. Exclusive use of the whole place means no rush, no clashing parties, no one watching the clock. Each gallery ends up different, but the venue carries its weight every time.

Pendrell sits near the top of my list.

Alice & Rikhi got the full benefit. If you’re still building a shortlist, take a look at more Staffordshire wedding venues.
