2024's Game-Changing Wedding Styles for Brides
Hey there, I'm Jordan Fox, wedding photographer and lover of the latest trends when it comes to a 2024 wedding! No doubt you're getting married in the not too distant future and you want to know whether it's bold colours, timeless elegance and do we even do wedding favours any more?! Well, I've got you :-)
I've teamed up with a selection of hand-picked wedding suppliers to ask what's hot for a wedding day in 2024.
These wedding industry experts will help with your wedding planning and ensure your Insta game is on point, your guests are gushing over your wedding attire and secretly you'll know your wedding was one for the ages!
The Wedding Ceremony
A significant wedding trend that we anticipate gaining momentum is the incorporation of a more relaxed and heartfelt wedding ceremony. Just a few years ago, mentioning the term "wedding celebrant" would result in a thousand-yard stare! However, celebrants have recently emerged as a valuable option for couples who prefer a personalised approach rather than a traditional church wedding.
After getting to know the couple, your celebrant will provide a bespoke ceremony that hits differently than your typical Vicar of Dibley vibe.
You will have to arrange a legal marriage ceremony should your celebrant not have the necessary license to make it official. However, the good news is that you can always do this separately and just have your wedding celebration with a celebrant-led ceremony.
The Rehearsal Dinner
This isn't a new wedding trend - certainly not for those in America and other sunnier parts of the world. However, we anticipate that the traditional rehearsal dinner will become an increasingly popular and extravagant event in 2024. Certainly, my recent enquiries have included this addition to their love story.
The rehearsal dinner has evolved into a mini wedding reception, giving couples a chance to create another memorable moment for their wedding party. From elaborate menus to curated cocktails and stunning decor, couples can let loose and enjoy the company of their closest family without having to invite some of the less desirables that you're forced/expected to invite on your actual wedding day :-)
Wedding Videography Wedding Trends
I got in touch with Chris from Jasper Films who I worked very closely with at the start of our wedding journey. I asked him about videography trends:
He mentioned how first-person point-of-view videography would make its way into a 2024 wedding.
The subject wears a pair of glasses with a built-in camera that captures candid moments and unforgettable moments as if you were there yourself! Just be sure to take them off when you visit the bathroom I guess... although what a memorable wedding video :-)
Wedding Content Creators
I recently had the pleasure of meeting Melissa from MB Weddings, who has effortlessly embraced a key wedding trend straight from America. Unlike a videographer who meticulously crafts a polished edit of your special day, complete with multiple cameras, drones, and microphones, your content creator captures the raw and natural essence of your wedding.
Picture having your bestie by your side throughout the day, capturing candid moments, and intimate snapshots that might have otherwise slipped away. And the best part? The turnaround time is impressively quick, usually just days, not months, so you can relive and cherish your wedding celebrations in no time!
Sustainable Weddings
Sustainable weddings aren't just a passing trend, they're a commitment to eco-friendliness and responsible consumption that we truly believe will continue beyond 2024 into 2025 and the years to come! 🌿💚
Couples are consciously making choices like sourcing local and seasonal flowers, opting for ethically-made wedding attire, and repurposing decorations to minimize waste. They're also choosing digital invitations and plant-based catering while donating excess food to local shelters. All these efforts show how a sustainable wedding can be a joyful celebration that embodies the true spirit of love and commitment.
Wedding Photography Latest Wedding Trends
As a wedding photographer, I'm totally on top of this 😄 Film wedding photography is making waves in the wedding scene. It's definitely a bold choice, especially when it comes to weddings. Personally, I love the security of my digital camera, but there's something undeniably timeless about wedding photos captured on film.
And hey, smoke bombs! They may not be new for 2024, but they're still trending in the wedding world. The photos always turn out so colourful and dramatic, adding that extra wow factor.
Let's not forget about drones! They've come a long way in terms of quality and usability. They provide an additional angle and perspective to wedding photos, giving them a unique touch. Cheers to capturing those unforgettable moments! 📸✨
Floral Arrangements in 2024
As previously noted, sustainability is at the forefront of floral trends for weddings in 2024. Opting for locally grown flowers is a meaningful step towards achieving this goal.
Plus, we're bringing back dried wedding flowers and pampas grass. It's a super chic and boho look that can be incorporated into various wedding elements, from bouquets to centrepieces.
Amy from Out Of the Box Flowers: "We're super glad to see artificial flowers are gaining popularity. Not only are they sustainable but they give couples the opportunity to have any type of flowers any time of year. They also look realistic so no one will even know! "
Vibrant Colours
I spoke to Tammy from TMS Events who states: " We are seeing lots of colour this year! Bright bold colours, pinks and oranges and couples not afraid to step outside the box. It's definitely the year of colour!"
Wedding Fashion Top Wedding Trends
The wedding dress holds great anticipation on the big day. As fashion-forward brides seek a distinctive touch, we witness the rise of coloured wedding dresses in various shades like blush pinks, pastel blues, and even deep emeralds. Furthermore, the addition of 3D floral accents offers a modern twist that satisfies the desires of those seeking a fashionable edge.
Gayle from The Bridal Room in Uttoxeter says: "There's a lot of floaty sleeves and coloured floral dresses coming through plus a big wedding trend is short party dresses."
One dress code wedding trend that hasn't gone down too well is the see-through dress:
"They've been a big no-no and gone down like a lead balloon - most brides aren't confident enough to pull them off or dare to wear them!"
Wedding Veils
Wedding veils hold a timeless significance for both brides and grooms. What was once seen as a little old-fashioned, the veil is making a comeback. You might even find grooms wearing them, and there are some stunning sheer options for men.
Top wedding trends highlight the popularity of various styles, such as:
Colourful Veils, adding a vibrant touch to the ensemble.
Long Veils, exuding elegance and grace.
Pearl Wedding Veils, showcasing a classic and sophisticated look.
Bow Wedding Veils, incorporating a charming and playful element.
Looking Good on the Dance Floor
When it comes to wedding planning the usual aspects come to mind: sending out invitations, adorning the wedding venue, and providing entertainment for your wedding guests. However, there's another element to consider: wedding day dance classes! In today's world, social media showcases some of the most enchanting dances at weddings, and it has become a trend that engaged couples don't want to miss out on. But simply watching TikTok videos won't take you very far. To truly impress your guests, you'll need an experienced instructor to guide you through your very own personalized dance routine, leaving a lasting impression on your guests!
Dancerella says: "Couples are embracing dance classes to make their special day even more memorable. It's a great way for them to connect and have fun together, plus it adds an extra element of excitement on the big day!"
Sophistication meets Quirky
Numerous brides nowadays are seeking to infuse an air of sophistication into their cocktail hour by enlisting the expertise of a mixologist to craft a personalised wedding day libation. Another captivating deviation from tradition that I recently came across is the notion of serving the wedding cake during the drinks reception. Coupled with the grandeur of a champagne tower, this amalgamation presents a truly refined and sophisticated trend that I wholeheartedly endorse!
Jewellery Wedding Trends
As we delve into the treasure trove of wedding trends, one aspect that beautifully complements the esteemed wedding dress is the selection of wedding jewellery.
I asked wedding jewellery specialist, Jemma Bowers about 2024 wedding trends in her world:
"More people are opting to use heirloom diamonds and gemstones. They add sentimentality to pieces, something that I'm finding more people are looking for. Re-designing pieces is becoming really popular combining the sentimental value of the heirloom stone with their own personal style"
Hair 2024 Wedding Trends
Hair styling plays a vital role in creating the perfect look for the bridal party, adding an elegant touch and fostering a sense of unity throughout the wedding day.
But what is hot for a 2024 wedding? I got chatting with Carys from Carys Ellis Bridal:
"I'm getting a lot of requests for the "undone" styles. They're so effortlessly cool and versatile!"
Destination Weddings 2024 Wedding Trends
Destination weddings will always be my favourite! The soft light, the lighter dress code, sun-kissed beaches, the extended wedding weekend - yes please :-)
Extended celebrations are a big part of celebrating your love story further afield and they allow some of the more weather-dependent wedding trends we've already mentioned including rehearsal dinners and the after-party.
Wedding Trends 2024 Final Thoughts
As the sun gracefully sets on our journey through the captivating world of 2024 wedding trends, it becomes unmistakably clear that couples are forging their own unique paths to ensure that their special day becomes an unforgettable experience. From vibrant and daring colour palettes that ignite the senses to enchanting personalised dance routines that weave together love stories, and from cherished heirloom jewellery that transcends generations, to effortlessly elegant 'undone' hairstyles that exude effortless beauty, each trend represents the individuality and spirit of the modern couple. These trends are not mere passing fads, but rather windows into the very essence of what makes a wedding truly extraordinary. These visionary themes for 2024 not only celebrate love, but do so with unparalleled style, unrivalled personality, and above all, an enduring charm that stands the test of time, just like the eternal bonds being celebrated.
