Iona & Tommy’s New Year’s Eve celebration
There is something undeniably special about New Year’s Eve. It is a time of anticipation, celebration, and new beginnings, and when you combine that energy with a wedding day, you get something genuinely magic. That is exactly what happened when Iona and Tommy invited me to capture their celebration at Grange Wedding Barn.
They chose a venue that perfectly suited the season and the mood they wanted to create. It was a day full of laughter, candlelight, and a serious party atmosphere as everyone counted down to midnight. If you are considering a winter wedding, or looking for that perfect rustic spot, here is a look at how their stunning day unfolded.

The Morning
Getting Ready at Grange Wedding Barn
The morning began with all the little details that set the tone for a winter wedding. Iona had chosen sophisticated seasonal styling over anything cliché, and it showed in every corner, from the dress hanging ready to the finer touches waiting to be worn.

While the hair and makeup team worked their magic, the room had that lovely calm buzz of a wedding morning. These quiet, focused moments are some of my favourites to photograph before the day picks up pace.

Then came the dress, the veil, and that quiet moment of becoming a bride. With help from the people closest to her, Iona was ready, and you could feel the anticipation building in the room.

And then, ready. We stepped outside for a few portraits before the ceremony, the winter light soft and flattering against the barn. Iona looked stunning.

Before heading in, there was time for the people who matter most, a moment with mum and dad, the flower girl, and the bridal party in their gold and green, all set against the warm tones of the barn.

The Ceremony
A Bagpiper & the Arrival
As guests gathered, a bagpiper set the tone for the day, his music carrying across the winter air. Inside, the groom waited and caught up with arriving guests, while Iona made her way to the barn. There is always a lovely electric feeling in these last few minutes before a ceremony begins.

The processional brought the petal girl, the bridesmaids, and then Iona on her father’s arm, all making their way down to a barn glowing with candlelight. The ceremony itself was warm and intimate, exactly the mood they had hoped for.

And then, the first kiss. Married at last, with the candlelight and the gentle green of the bridesmaids’ bouquets framing the moment beautifully.

The Reception
Espresso Martinis & Warm Welcomes
Guests were welcomed with espresso martinis, a sure-fire way to get the energy up right from the start. Half the guest list had flown over from Australia to be there, and you could feel just how much it meant to have everyone in the same room. The hugs and happy reunions said it all.

Just the Two of You
We stole a little time away for some portraits of the two of them. Iona and Tommy told me they were not naturals in front of a camera, but you would never know it, they relaxed quickly and we came away with some beautiful, easy frames against the winter backdrop.

And a few of Iona on her own, because every bride deserves them. The ring, the dress, and that quiet confidence once the nerves of the morning had melted away.

The bridal party looked wonderful in their gold and green, colours that worked so beautifully against the natural, woody tones of the barn and the fir decorations.

The Evening
Counting Down to Midnight
As evening set in, the celebration moved up a gear. There was live music, plenty of espresso martinis, and that wonderful New Year’s Eve energy building towards midnight. Little ones and grown-ups alike were ready to see in the new year in style.

From the Couple
“Jordan made us feel comfortable even though we are not naturals in front of a camera, and caught the guests in real moments we will treasure.”

My Approach
Capturing the Day as it Happens
Weddings like this one remind me why I love what I do. My style is relaxed and candid, focused on the moments as they unfold, the laughter during speeches, the tear in a parent’s eye, the chaos and joy of the dance floor. If you are curious how those early moments come together, take a look at my guide to getting ready on your wedding morning.
A December wedding brings its own challenges. The days are short and the light fades fast, so for Iona and Tommy’s micro wedding I had my flash ready to keep every moment crisp once the sun went down. Rather than fighting the dark, we embraced it, and the result was a set of images that felt warm, intimate, and true to the evening.
If you want stiff, formal posing for hours, I am probably not your girl. But if you want someone who blends in, has a laugh with your guests, and hands you a gallery full of real emotion, we might be a great fit.
