Bridal Preparations at The Mill Barns
I always start my wedding coverage two hours prior to the ceremony. After greeting the events team, I make my way to the dressing room to meet our bride, Claire, who is accompanied by her bridal team. The room is abuzz with activity as the hair and make-up artist works their magic.
Following a series of candid and posed photos, I leisurely stroll through the three stunning outdoor terraces, the charming wedding breakfast barn, and the elegant ceremony barn. This allows me to capture not only the essence of the surroundings but also the intricate details that make each wedding special.
I meet up with Josh - our groom and his groomsmen who are in good spirits having a few drinks on the unique walkway. I captured some of this before the guests began to arrive and the excitement of the big day began to mount.
The Ceremony at The Mill Barns
The event manager calls everyone into the ceremony barn and I join Josh ready to get some amazing shots. As a wedding photographer, this room is perfectly lit with the large windows allowing plenty of natural light. As usual, there are lots of poignant moments, a few tears and a lot of laughter!
An often overlooked detail is the discreetly placed microphone on the registrar's table, ensuring that guests can comfortably hear the exchange of vows. The official paperwork is signed and the newlyweds make their way down the aisle showered by confetti!
The Drinks Reception at the Mill Barns
We popped straight outside the venue on the unique walkway taking a few photos of the happy couple. Claire had a surprise in store for Josh - to bring their beloved dog to enjoy the wedding celebrations! More tears.
There was a string quartet that set up in the main entrance and guests meandered on the Mill Pond Terrace overlooking the mature landscaped gardens.
The perfect day is unfolding naturally so far - guests are in good spirits and most importantly, it's not raining!
Group Photos at Mill Barns
We use the front of the venue to photograph Claire, Josh and their favourites! I usually spend around 10-15 minutes on group shots giving plenty of time to capture the more spontaneous moments that happen throughout weddings. This stunning venue has a really crisp, modern feel to it - the perfect backdrop for group photos.
Portraits At The Mill Barns
I am a wedding photographer specialising in capturing natural and relaxed moments. However, I also appreciate the beauty of well-posed, romantic photos. As always, I adapt the length of the session to the couple's preferences. For those who feel uneasy in front of the camera, I have some helpful tips and tricks to ensure they feel at ease and look their best. We make use of the eight acres available at this wedding venue, visiting the mesmerising water features and the easily accessible gardens.
The Wedding Breakfast At The Mill Barns
Guests quickly make a dash to the bar to grab their own drinks before we get to welcome the newlyweds into the wedding breakfast barn.
The string quartet repositioned themselves and serenaded Josh and Claire's family and friends as they tucked into their meal. The food here is the new standard in wedding day catering - I'm happy to say I got to sample it whilst going over the photos captured so far and recharging a few batteries.
I eagerly await the speeches - a part of the day that never fails to bring a delightful array of surprises. Be it cringe-worthy jokes, heartfelt messages, or a meticulously choreographed dance routine, there's always an element of anticipation for what awaits!
The Evening Reception at The Mill Barns
There's luxury onsite accommodation so some guests retire to their rooms to freshen up as the evening guests filter in. I continue to photograph our married couple as they are greeted by the new guests.
There's an acoustic duo who set up next to the impressive Christmas tree and provide a nice atmosphere going into the evening celebrations.
It's worth pointing out, that unlike other venues, Mill Barns provides you exclusive use so no uninvited guests - not even Santa on your big day!
As the November evening draws in, it's time for the time-honoured cake cutting, the first dance followed swiftly by the crazy shapes on the dance floor. I absolutely love this moment as we see reserved wedding guests undergo the magical transformation to become the life of the party!
I say goodbye to the married couple and call it a day. And what a day!
